SAT Preparation Guide: Math and Reading and Writing
By the PassSpark team · 2026-10-22 · SAT, Study plan
The SAT measures reading, writing and math skills used for many university applications. Always confirm the current format and registration details on the College Board website, because the test has changed in recent years.
Know the two sections
- Reading and Writing: short passages with questions on vocabulary in context, grammar and logic.
- Math: algebra, problem solving and data analysis, geometry and trigonometry. Some answers are typed in rather than chosen.
A 6-week plan
- Weeks 1 to 2: take a practice test, then revise the weakest content.
- Weeks 3 to 5: practise by topic, then by full section, always timed.
- Week 6: full mock tests, then review every mistake.
Tips
- Learn grammar rules once, then apply them quickly.
- In math, show your steps on scratch paper to avoid careless errors.
- Review mistakes by category to find patterns.
