GRE Study Plan: Verbal, Quant and Analytical Writing
By the PassSpark team · 2026-10-22 · GRE, Study plan
The GRE is used for many graduate programmes. Check ETS for the current format and fees before you book.
What it tests
- Verbal Reasoning: reading comprehension, text completion and sentence equivalence.
- Quantitative Reasoning: arithmetic, algebra, geometry and data analysis, including some numeric-entry questions.
- Analytical Writing: an essay that analyses an issue.
An 8-week plan
- Weeks 1 to 2: take a diagnostic and list weak areas.
- Weeks 3 to 6: alternate Verbal and Quant days, 60 to 90 minutes each. Build vocabulary with spaced flashcards.
- Week 7: write two timed essays and get feedback.
- Week 8: full mock tests and light review.
Tips
For Quant, learn the formulas and practise estimating. For Verbal, read long articles daily and summarise them in one sentence.
